Ocean Energy Europe 2018 Conference Activities

Next week, on the 30th and 31st of October, Ocean Energy Ireland and SEAI will be exhibiting at the Ocean Energy Europe 2018 Conference (OEE2018), which this year is taking place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. Ocean Energy Ireland will have a stand in the exhibition hall (No. 19 - 20) and welcome all Irish delegates to visit the stand and to make use of our meetings facilities.

The conference is organised by Ocean Energy Europe (OEE), an industry association representing the ocean energy sector in Europe, including Europe’s leading utilities, industrialists and research institutes. The Ocean Energy Europe conference is one of the highlights of Europe’s ocean energy calendar. It brings together stakeholders from across the ocean energy sector to share the industry’s most recent developments. The conference provides opportunities to network and obtain access to the decision makers, thought leaders, investors and entrepreneurs, including representatives from the European Commission.

The conference will feature over 400 attendees from industry, research and political institutions representing 22 different countries. Over 50 companies with be exhibiting and 8 side events are scheduled to provide extended learning and networking opportunities.

This year’s conference theme – ‘Working locally, growing globally‘ – will explore ocean energy’s major impact on European regions, nations and states in terms of economic growth, investments and jobs. On October 31st Declan Meally, SEAI’s Head of Department for Emerging Sectors, will be speaking in the ‘Regional & National Champions: Local Growth, Global Impact’ session, at 9:00am-10:30pm in Lennox 1 Room, on how Ireland and is encouraging local communities to get involved in the Ocean Energy sector. We would like to encourage all conference goers to attend the event and participate in the subsequent question and answers session. SEAI will also be available to answer any further questions, on any of the topics discussed, at our stand.

During the OEE2018, on Tuesday 30th October at 11am, the Ocean Energy ERA-NET Cofund (OCEANERA-NET COFUND) project will be holding a side event. The project is an initiative of eight national and regional government agencies from six European countries, which has received funding from the European Union under the Horizon 2020 Programme for Research and Innovation. The aim of the project is to coordinate support for research and development in ocean energy and to encourage collaborative projects that tackle key challenges identified for the sector as it progresses towards commercialisation.

This event will:

  • Announce the collaborative ocean energy demonstration projects funded under the 2017 Joint Call.
  • Provide information on the upcoming second Joint Call, expected to open in early 2019.

The event is free of charge to attend for OEE2018 delegates.  You can register for the event when registering for OEE2018 or, if you have already registered, update your booking to include the session.
